{TRAVEL}: DAYDREAMING IN TAIPEI.

My second day in Taipei started at 8am. It's considered pretty early after all night long shopping at night market. I was told that second day in Taipei was going to be full day of sightseeing, hotspring and it's said that Taipei has so many picturesque and beautiful scenery, I thought it's definitely worth the sleeplessness. I wasn't disappointed.  We arrived at the Taipeil Railway station for breakfast, hopped onto a bus after that and headed to Erziping Trail in...

Hi everyone, Here goes day 3 of my #Taiwan adventure! Day 2 and day 1 posts are here in case you missed reading them. After day 2 with full of sightseeing, back-to-nature itinerary, I decided to reserve my third day in Taipei to explore the city and to see what Taipei has to offer. I guess, growing up in a city gives me the curiosity and habitude to explore other places that are close to where I grew up. My comfort zone, I admit. While everyone else went to other historical...

Hi everyone, Suddenly, I don't know how to start this last blog post about #Taiwan trip. The feeling is like when I was in Taipei on my 4th day knowing that this was my last day in Taipei. It's getting emotional. My flight back to Singapore was at 8pm so I had plenty of time to walk around the streets and to look for some souvenirs for friends and family. My hotel is located right at Ximending, one of the most popular shopping districts for young people. Ximending is the source...

Hi everyone,  This is probably the first and the most exciting Crystal's Closet blog entry that I would like to share with you inspired by a famous celebrity from the 1960s. It's no other than Audrey Hepburn, my biggest fashion inspiration.  Audrey Hepburn, born Audrey Kathleen Ruston (1929- 1933) was one of the most elegant actresses in all of cinema. She was an Academy- Award winning actress, a fashion icon in the 20th century and her most iconic role, nominated for an...

{TRAVEL} A GUIDE TO SINGAPORE'S CHINATOWN

Image courtesy of Singapore Tourism Board. Photographer: Tan Hock Siong.

Similar to other major cities and countries, Chinatown is Singapore’s tourist heaven. Backpackers skip straight into the exciting Chinese buzz ignoring the obvious glamour and glitz of Orchard Road and Marina Bay Sands. Singapore’s Chinatown is filled with history, suspense and culture. A remembrance of traditional customs combined with Chinese medicines, clothing, specialty dishes and the rituals follow everyone’s journey through the notorious yet exciting part of Singapore. Chinatown is an amazing district to start walking around after 2pm into the night when the neon lights hit and the district explodes with energy.

The History

There’s a vibrant energy that passes through the busy streets of Chinatown. It gives off a different feel compared to other places in Singapore. Don’t be fooled by the lovingly-restored and charming heritage shops and houses, Chinatown still resembles a disreputable past. Shady alleys providing refuge for opium traffickers, illegal gambling and secret societies. Prostitution growing in popularity with rats openly scampering looking for a meal. The standards of living were deplorable with living spaces cramped further into each other after every street. It was suffocating. Sanitation was unheard of. It was the lowest of the low.

So what changed?

Well, several decades later after countless restoration efforts, Chinatown is now Singapore’s biggest landmark attraction for both citizens and tourists alike. It is an upscale commercial and residential area that’s filled with heritage and culture. The shop houses were the only historical item to be spared from being destroyed due to their architectural value. Other iconic changes have since popped up over Chinatown like the Red Dot Design Museum, the Chinatown Heritage Centre and Pinnacle@Duxton residential project. These developments have fused the past and the future to create an architectural marvel. Despite the modernisation efforts, Chinatown still retains the majority of its quirky charm. An intricate group of shop houses from Maxwell Road up to Pagoda Street blends the boundaries between Chinatown and the Tanjong Pagar district. You’ll find pretty much everything here, from dried seahorse to cackling trinkets. Whether you’re looking for sexy men’s underwear or Buddhist paraphernalia, Chinatown has it all. You won’t find such a diverse range of street shops anywhere else in Singapore.

Rest, relax and stay in Chinatown

The area can leave you feeling drained after a long trek, so don’t hesitate to soothe your soles in one of Chinatown’s many spas. Spahaven on 45-46 Amoy Street offers everything a luxury spa would. Or you may opt for Qimantra on 83A Club Street which offers an authentic Chinese remedial experience. How can anyone turn down a traditional Chinese massage? If you’re done for the day or just need to slip in a power nap, then look for nearby places to stay. There are great deals for Singapore hotels this year by many online accommodation websites, such as HotelClub. And if you’re looking for something totally unconventional, then try Living Wellness on 24A Pagoda Street instead. They promote colon hydrotherapy with coffee enemas. Of course, it’s done in a private environment.

What to eat

Tourists definitely need to try local cuisine, especially for the first timers. The most authentic Singaporean cuisine you will find in Chinatown will be at the Singapore Heritage Restaurant on 48 Pagoda Street in the Heritage Centre. The fusion restaurant brings together dishes from Singapore’s historical past and blends them with a quality selection of cocktails. 20 Trengganu Street is home to Yum Cha Chinatown Restaurant, a traditional Dim Sum Restaurant that’s won over the hearts of the locals. It’s become a popular hang-out spot for residents for bringing an awesome dim sum experience to Singapore. It’s on top of a shop house and really gives off an old Singapore vibe while you sit on white marble tables in a circle. Wooden carved Chinese chairs combined with Chinese calligraphy finishes off the already-perfect environment. If you want a mix of the old and the new, then go down Keong Saik Street. An infamous red-light district is now teemed with boutique hotels. You’ll find the charming Hotel 1929 which is home to Ember, a fashionable modern European restaurant that food critics constantly go crazy about.

Train stop: Chinatown on the Purple Line

Recommended for: Couples and adults who love heritage and like to explore

Budget: Cheap food, clothing and souvenirs

Average hotel prices: $150-$250/night

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: RAINING BLUE

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if you have ever played in the rain when you were a kid? I remember when I was a kid, I always loved playing in the rain. Sometimes, I just had to sneak out of the house without getting caught as my parents were worried if I would get sick. It was so fun when you were a child. When I get older, playing in the rain seems to be a great way to lose myself for an amount of time and forget about all the worries. It becomes a stress-released activity to me, yet I haven't had chance to do it again for the past 10 years.

Only until last week, when I was caught in a very heavy rain in between my meetings, I had no other excuse not to bring my favorite childhood memory back. Even better, I brought my camera with me to capture this perfect moment. I thought we were so unfortunate to be stuck at an overhead bridge but it turned out to be an ideal location for a quick photo shoot under such weather condition.

Time and space seemed to stop right at this overhead bridge, giving me an opportunity to enjoy looking at the rain without having to worry about "What should I do next?".

Knowing that this moment would go by so quickly as soon as the rain stopped and I had to get back to my daily life routine again, I just had to reach out my hand to touch the cold raindrops and to let them splash everywhere. I felt like I was at my 10 years old again.

At the present, being an adult gets me less excited about playing in the rain. Instead, I would prefer taking a romantic walk with the man of my life, sharing an umbrella and giving each other a tight hug. Otherwise, a quiet corner with a cup of chamomile tea, some fashion magazines would do the job.

What would be your most favorite way to enjoy the rain (*besides sleeping, of course)? Please share with me at the comment section below.

Thank you so much everyone for reading. I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to kick start your brand new week. Good luck!

Love,
Crystal

CRYSTAL'S CLOSET: A DAY BY THE BAY

A day by the bay is always a good day to me. Last Tuesday was even better when it started off at my all time favorite place: Marina Bay Sands. I and Alicia had a very early morning meeting with client at Starbucks overlooking at the spectacular Marina Bay Sands hotel. Not sure if it was because of the fantastic location that gave my client a good mood or our proficiency at work helped us in closing the deal. But we did it, short and sweet! A good day just got even better.

Hanging out at such beautiful places like that, nobody can say "No" to photos-taking time. I know I can't. I even prepared what I wanted to wear a night before for this special outfit of the day shoot.

Nothing fancy! Just a simple pencil skirt, statement silk embroidery blouse with high heels for sophisticated, polished and professional look. On a fine day when you are looking at your overwhelming wardrobe and not knowing what to wear for work (just like me), grab your favorite pencil skirt and work your way up. The pencil skirt is such an amazing versatile staple that it can make you look casual, sexy, elegant or professional within a blink of an eye.

With that said, I strongly recommend you to get at least, 1 -3 pencil skirts in your wardrobe for your work- play - party purposes. You can clickhere to see how I was wearing my pencil skirt.

Hope you guys like today blog post! Let me know in the comment section below if you have better style tips on wearing pencil skirts, I would love to hear and feature your style in my upcoming blog entry.

Thank you so much for reading, everyone!

Talk to you soon.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: BEACH GIRL

Whenever I'm at the beach, I'm a happy girl no matter what happens! I had the last two weekends spent perfectly at my most favorite place: the beach. OK! Fine! I admit that I love going to the beach to flaunt my body in those tiny bikinis and to take beautiful photos. But there are more things about the beach that get me addicted to: the blue sky, clear turquoise water, white sand, golden sun and beautiful surroundings. Well, SENTOSA is nowhere near to that standard but still, better than nothing.

This is probably the only place that could help me to take my mind off work, to think of nothing but relaxing. There is likely only one problem I can name it when it comes to the beach: What should I wear? Sometimes, it takes me forever to find out.

Cotton beach dress, bikini,  statement necklace, a pair of comfy wedges (or flip flops) and big sunnies are the most basic staples for any beachy occasion. Other than these, roomy beach tote, wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen are also must- have beach items.

To me, there is one more important item that I could never leave home without is: my camera :D. You can call me as "self-obsessed girl" but you need to thank to my self-obsession for snapping so many beautiful photos for you to see here. #bloggerproblem #justkidding.

That's pretty much how I spent my last 2 weekends. This weekend promises to be much better as I'll be spending 3 days 2 nights in #Hanoi *so excited*. Finished my last minute packing at 1am, I'm going to end this blog entry at *looking at the watch* 4am before leaving to the airport at 8am. I'm typical like that!

Hope you'll have fantastic weekend too and if you are heading to the beach, please don't forget to share with me what your beach outfit would be in the comment section below.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: STRIPES OBSESSION.

I must admit, there is one type of outfit that I keep going back to recently is striped outfit. You've probably seen me wearing and blogging about it many timeshere yet I still find it difficult to cover all different styles and pairings for this simple and classic fashion staple.

People often put a blame on horizontal stripes for making the wearers look bigger than their actual size  but that is not true. I've ever seen a lady whose size is 3 times bigger than mine yet still looked so elegant, chic and beautiful in her striped outfit. Perhaps, it still points down to "How you wear your outfit" at the end of the day.

Last week, I attempted to go all the way with stripes on stripes outfit to go to work and to see how it turned out. I could't complain much as even with the #breton stripes covered me from head to toe,  I DID NOT find my body grow any extra inches horizontally. With the red blazer layered on top, I was very comfortable in my own skin and ready to run many meetings in a day.

In conclusion, there is nothing scary about a stripe. This, in fact, is a classic pattern that is so flattering  and fun to wear. If you love striped outfits but don't know what are the tips and tricks? click HERE to read more.

Thank you so much for reading everyone.
I'll talk to you soon.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: LACE UP

Nothing brings me closer to the feeling of femininity and sensuality than a lace skirt. Not only that, but my femininity level is boosted up even higher whenever I put a lace skirt on. I dare not walk so big steps as I'm afraid the fragile lacy fabric will be torn any moment. The beautiful delicate floral lace over lay on the black pencil skirt added a romantic twist to the entire outfit that I was wearing. From romantic look for a Friday date night to a fun, flirty minis on Saturday evening, this sexy fabric piece is all you need. And don't think lace skirts aren't appropriate for work. Whoever said that office attires should only be conservative with black, white, grey pants, shirts or skirts obviously didn't know how to dress up.

I wore this beautiful lace skirt to work last week and absolutely loved how it made me feel so motivated, confident and professional when meeting with few clients in a day.  In fact, lace outfits aren't new. They have been around for the longest time and have been coming back every single year. Yet, people never get bored of this trend. I know I haven't grown tired of them, not any time soon. Even though, I don't wear it very often but lace skirts, dresses or tops are always one of my most favorites list and I find it difficult to count how many lace outfits I have owned so far.

Do you have any lace skirt, top or dress in your wardrobe yet? How do you style them? When do you usually wear them? Please share with me in the comment section below, I would love to hear. And if you haven't had ANY lace item in your closet, it's time to shop for one NOW. Happy Lacy Day!

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: DENIM ON DENIM

Greetings from Vietnam, everyone!

Ok! I kid as I'm not in Vietnam right now. I was there 2 weeks ago and this shortest trip (only 3 days) has left me such a strong feeling that It made me feel like I came back Singapore just yesterday.

Nothing fancy. I spent most of my time there with my family eating, watching TV and playing with my nephew whom you are about to see his cuteness overload on this blog entry for the first time.

My brother offered a helping hand to take my outfit photos in front of our house where the white gate was; and when we were busy trying to get some shots done before the sky went dark, THIS little monster came out and insisted on appearing on all of my photos.

Introducing to you, my most favorite baby on earth: Miu!

Miu is his nickname we used to call him at home, his actual name is longer and I doubt you could remember it, so let's just call him as Miu for now. Plus, Miu sounds super cute. I'm always amazed at how Miu strikes a pose in front of the camera without anyone telling him what to do. He does it nicely and properly. Look at his pose in the photo below!

Who taught him to pose like that? I didn't. I begin to think that at 2 years old, he is going to outplay me very soon in terms of modeling and posing for camera. Every time I take my camera out, he must ask me to take photo of him. Worse still, he assumes that I'm going to take photos of him, so he poses and smiles before I even say Yes. I'm not even exaggerating.

Wearing my favorite denim outfit sponsored by #Levis last month during Singapore Blog Award. I love how this denim shirt fits me perfectly and brings out the curve of my body yet still makes me look very comfortable and effortlessly chic.

No outfit is complete without some accessories: necklace, bracelet, cool sunglasses and rings. These are probably some stuffs that I will never leave the house without.

What do you think of this outfit? Have you ever tried to rock denim on denim style before? If not, shop for my outfit here.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: LEOPARD PRINT DRESS

The popular leopard print has made a bold enter into fashion industry and claimed its prime spot in the closet of many women and girls including mine. Like it or not, leopard print is still a strong basic pattern that can be called a statement piece on it own.

Every once in a while, whenever I feel like being wild and adventurous in dressing-up, I'll think of the leopard dress. While some women may balk at the thought of wearing animal print dress on their date night, I find it perfect to wear this eye-catching outfit even to go to work. There are few simple reasons why I love wearing leopard dress. The ultimate reason, perhaps, is that it doesn't require so much work. Literally, It saves me a lot of time and troubles from finding the matching accessories to complement my clothes. Even if there are any accessories, they should be just simple and minimal.

To create a sultry, yet polished look with my leopard print dress, I added red details by wearing the beaded necklace, bracelet and high heels just to attract more attention to the entire outfit. Last but not least, I have to admit, leopard print dress is the best excuse for me to put on my bright, red lipstick whenever I feel like wearing it. Be it morning, evening or night, this classic combination of a leopard dress and a red lipstick is a perfect cure whenever I need to attend some events but feel lazy to put on heavy make-up and dress up.

But really, even with all the tips and tricks I'm sharing with you above, you still need to have one last important accessories in order to pull this outfit off: CONFIDENCE and a BIG SMILE.

Hope you like the outfit as much as I do. If you are looking for more style tips, click HERE to find out how I wore leopard outfits.

 Hi everyone,

This is no longer a secret! I'm now bursting with excitement to announce the project I've been working on for months. It is called "My Crystal's Closet". I was supposed to write about it it much sooner but due to some technical issues and my super duper busy schedule, I had to leave it till now.

First, let's me ask you some questions!

Do you love online shopping? I know I'm a crazy online shoppaholic.
Do you love branded shoes, designer handbags and cloths? I assume most girls do.
Now, the next question is: Where to get the cheapest designer handbags, shoes and accessories? Honestly, I do not know. But there is one thing I know for sure is buying branded handbags, cloths, shoes directly from US, UK, Italy websites (those trusted and reputable websites) is always cheaper than buying at the physical stores here in Singapore. Trust me, I learned my lesson when I first traveled to US in 2011 and saw with my own eyes how much things are cheaper in US than in Singapore. Since then, I have been buying mostly my branded cloths, bags or shoes from US websites and shipping it to Singapore. I save a lot of money.

You may say: "But shipping is so expensive". Well, I've got you covered.

Basically, My Crystal's Closet is my personal page created to help you find your most favorite fashion items at great price and to give you the worry-free online shopping experience when it comes to authenticity and shipping cost. Each week, I'll feature my most favorite picks from different online shopping websites. Some websites even offer FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE to make your life easier. You can also let me know what items are you looking for, I'll try my best to be your good online-personal shopper at no extra charge. Unless you want to give me some tips, I won't mind! :D

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: SHADE OF BLUE.

Calming and cool, blue has always been my favorite color whenever I need to find peace and relaxation. That's when I'm really stressed out with many outstanding works and targets I need to achieve. This is obvious reason why you don't see me wearing blue very often. Well, it doesn't always apply that way but at the moment, the color- therapy does play a part.

I bought this sky blue maxi skirt long time ago but I haven't had chance to wear it. It was my love at the first sight when I saw it on a website, I knew I just had to buy it. 3 months later (which was last week), I took it out of the wardrobe to let it see the sun and enjoy the wind. After which, I kinda regretted, I should have done this much earlier.

Having a meeting with my client next to the swimming pool that day was totally out of my expectation. The meeting was good but the fantastic swimming pool right next to us made it even better. It's a perfect location for my sky blue maxi skirt to show its best. And because this is full circle skirt, it gives me so much more movement whenever I walk. I love how it made me feel ultra-feminine and beautiful. Literally, I could even do the signature Marilyn Monroe pose if the wind was strong enough.

By the way just a side note, if you are a Latin- Ballroom dancer like myself, this skirt is perfect for your Paso Doble dance practice. I had similar one in purple and I loved it.

I used to have doubt when it comes to maxi skirt because I thought it would make me look smaller than I actually am. Not anymore! The always-worked-trick is to highlight your waist with a belt and keep your layers sleek and chic. Here I chose the skinny belt and a form-fitting denim jacket on top to counteract with the flowing and round skirt's shape at the bottom.

And If you are not sure what color to match with your sky blue maxi skirt, go back to the limited-less- inspiration resource: nature. I paired my blue maxi skirt with white camisole, white denim jacket and white heels inspired by the blue sky and the white clouds. Fashion sometimes can be just simple like that.

I hope you enjoyed looking at this outfit and if you love this style as much as I do, here are the links for you to buy this look.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: THE BOYFRIEND JEANS

$

As most of you know that I love wearing tight, fitting or skinny jeans simply because they compliment my body shape. I'm not very tall, I confess, that's why I'm very particular about finding cloths that could hide my actual height. Thus, boyfriend jeans or loose jeans have never managed to get my attention. Only after I was "forced" to put on the real boyfriend jeans to promote for Levi's 501 jeans during the Singapore Blog Award (blog entry here), I started learning how to appreciate it. Now? I'm loving it.

After the first pair of boyfriend jeans Levi's gave me, I became obsessed with this style and have been hunting for another pair in light blue wash color with a bit of destroyed finish. I couldn't describe how excited I was when I first saw my favorite boyfriend jeans in ZARA store. Guess what? Half an hour later, they landed in my closet.

Boyfriend jeans aren't new but they have only become very popular these recent years. The loose, ripped up jeans do not only take comfort and relaxed-style to the next level but also give lot of chic and sexiness credits to the wearer. I love pairing my boyfriend jeans with high heels, fitted tops like cropped top, tees, camisoles and layering with fitted blazer or jacket. I can totally wear them over and over again. Don't be surprised if you see me wearing boyfriend jeans again in the next Crystal's Closet post.

Every girl should have at least one pair of boyfriend jeans in her closet. The jeans are so versatile, comfortable and chic and suitable for most occasions. If you don't have one, you can borrow from your boyfriend. If your boyfriend's  jeans don't fit you well, it's time to shop for your very own jeans. When Summer is going to come to an end and Fall is about to knock on our door, it's time for us (girls) to think about footwear options. What shoes should I wear for Fall? Suede, leather boots might be too hot in the day time whilst high heels, sandals aren't good enough to keep our feet warm at night. Interestingly enough, this year fashion weeks (Spring 2013) have brought to us the best combination ever: sandal boots. Wish came true!

These "half open-toed sandals, half ankle boots" shoes are the must- have items in your closet this season.  I've been being obsessed with these sandal boots when I first saw them earlier this year. Besides the versatility and chicness, this sexy silhouette is proven to be the statement shoes that can pull everyone's attention.

There are so many styles to chose from and I'm so overwhelmed by all of them. Nevertheless, here are my best picks so far.

Aren't they pretty? Would you wear these sandal boots? How do you style them?

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: FLORAL ROMANCE

Blogging while being sick is not a good thing especially when I was told by doctor to take more rest and get more sleep. I have not been having enough 8 hours of sleep for so many months due to my work, blog and many other things that require my time and commitment and attention. Good thing is I love doing ALL of them and Bad thing is I feel exhausted all the time. I need a vacation badly.

Having said that, this is going to be a short blog entry as I'm only having 20 minutes left to catch my beauty sleep.

When browsing on ASOS few weeks ago to see what's new in the store, I fell instantly in love with this beautiful floral pencil dress the moment I saw it. I loved the color combination, the delicate floral printed abstracts on the dress as well as the soft material and cutting. Immediately, I could imagine how would I look in it, how should I style this dress. Besides, I'm not going to lie, the discounted price was what attracted me the most and I just had to click on "Check-out" button.

Few days later, the dress (together with many other dresses and tops I bought) flew all the way from Australia right to my door step. Nothing beats the feeling of receiving a big parcel from oversea. It feels like Christmas or my birthday has just come much sooner.

I had perfect time shooting this dress at Fullerton Bay hotel last week (the beautiful dress deserves to be shot at a beautiful place) and had so many beautiful photos which I would like to share with you. After spending hours looking at all the photos, here are my most favorite ones.

I still haven't worn this dress on any occasion yet as I wanted to reserve beautiful dress for a special occasion with an important person. What could be more romantic than wearing a body-con floral dress on a date night?

To balance out the straight-cut dress, I curled up my hair to create the Hollywood glamour 1950s inspired hairstyle. Add on some highlights with sparkle necklace, red lipstick and keep the rest simple and neutral. There you have it!

Do you have any outfit that you would reserve for someone special? What would you wear on a date? Tell me in the comment section below. Love this outfit? Here are the links for you to get them:
