{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CLASSIC MIDI

Whenever I'm wearing a midi skirt, it always reminds me of my mom for some reasons. I remembered that I saw many midi skirts (in all different colors, materials, styles and prints) in her closet when I was a kid. My mom loves any outfit that makes her feel feminine, ladylike and sophisticated, and so do I (now I understand where is my style influenced by). That also explains why I completely and immediately felt in love with this classic silhouette when I first saw it on the runway.

It's time to bring it to the real way!

When my mom was in town 2 weeks ago, I brought her to my photoshoot and let her see what her daughter's day look like at work. I purposely wore this midi skirt as I knew she would be happy looking at me wearing one of her favourite wardrobe staples. I asked her: "Mom, did you see yourself in me when you were young?" and I received the answer that made me laugh: "Yes! But I didn't wear hat".

Fashion always comes back around. It's amazing to see some basic items in our closet can live through time and generations. All we need is just a simple twist to bring it back to the present and to make it alive again.

Writing this first outfit blog post of 2014 makes me feel like raiding my mom's closet when I'm back home. Who knows what hidden treasures I might find. :D

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: WANDERLUST

It always feels like stepping into a whole new different world whenever I visit Universal Studios Singapore (USS). My first time in this wonderland was so memorable and fun that I couldn't stop thinking of going back there again to spend one full day with all the cartoon characters that I used to adore when I was a kid but hardly had chance to watch them on TV.

When my mom was in town 2 weeks ago, I decided to bring her to visit USS. She was my perfect "partner- in- crime". She was so brave that she joined me in most of the rides including the scariest one. How often can you spend one whole day with your mom having so much fun, laughing out loud together and not worrying about anything in life? It was my first time in 20 years and I felt so guilty for not doing this much earlier.

Talking so much about my mom in the recent blog entries makes me feel like I should, at least show you guys one photo of her.

Here she is- the love of my life who was also "forced" to be my photographer of the day.

Mom always complains about my travel addiction but she has never stopped me from traveling. When I was 15 years old, my family was so poor that we could never afford an air ticket to travel anywhere. Living nearby the airport, I saw many aircraft landing and taking off everyday. It drove my teenage mind crazy and I couldn't help but wonder: "How did it feel like to sit in an airplane at thousands feet up in the air?", "How did the clouds look from that tiny window?", "Would there be any bird flying outside?". None of my questions were answered. I told myself that when I'm successful and have the opportunity in future, I'll try to travel to many different places as much as I can.

10 years later, I traveled like a bird, flew back and forth from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) once every month for more than a year until I was so tired of traveling. That was 5 years ago. Right now, I travel 3, 4 times a year and can happily call myself as a dream-achiever. I have visited US, Hongkong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Dubai, Thailand so far. I'm like a glass half full. The more I go, the less things I think I know. The thought of visiting new places, seeing new things is exciting me every day. Whether I'm at Far Far Away castle or the Hollywood Boulevard, the Sci-Fi city or the Ancient Egypt, I always find myself entertained, inspired wherever I go. There are many beautiful places I've been that left me speechless and turned me into a storyteller. After every single trip, there will always be one question: Where will I be next?

WHAT DOES YOUR BIRTHDAY SAY ABOUT YOU?

Hi everyone,
I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. Today blog entry is not about Fashion, Beauty or Travel. It's about an interesting topic that I discovered 2 weeks ago and I thought i should share with you guys.
From the blog title itself, you probably know what I'm about to say, but don't be so confident just yet as your guess might be wrong. Behind the ordinary numbers of your birthday, there is something called "Human Profiling" that can tell so many things about you. I learned about it when I had a chance to attend a seminar "World's First UCM Human Profiling" held by Dr. Bernard Yeo.

To be completely honest, I doubted that these numbers could tell us that much about our life, our future, our destiny. Or in other words, I didn't believe it. There are approximately 370,000 babies born everyday worldwide, aren't they supposed to have exactly same destiny? I know you'll probably ask the same question. However, when Dr. Bernard Yeo confidently said that: "No two people are alike, even identical twins", he got me surprised and curious. I just had to find out what exactly he was talking about and how could he be so sure.

Dr. Bernard Yeo is a researcher and founder of the Universal Characteristic Method of Human Profiling. He had spent over 5 years engaged in deep intensive studies of human behavior and their personalities. He has analyzed more than 12,000 people's birth numbers from different cultures, genders and background. According to him, the accuracy is up to 90%. In 2012, Dr. Yeo was acknowledged in Asia Pacific Outstanding Business Professional Award for his hard work and contributions to the Human Profiling subject. He was also conferred the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Human Capital Development and Human Profiling in 2013 in recognition for his outstanding research.

There were so many people attended Dr. Yeo's seminar on that day. Everyone seemed to be so excited to learn new knowledge as well as to witness the official launch of Dr. Yeo's first book: "Know your numbers, know yourself".

I had a quick conversation with Dr. Yeo before he started his seminar and had some photos taken (as usual).
Dr. Bernard Yeo, me & Grace (his secretary) posed in front of his giant poster.

I was honored to be seated at the VIP area to listen to his training.

Throughout 2 hour seminar, we were taught to calculate our own Universal Character Number, our Destiny Number, Strength and Weaknesses Number based on our birthday. This Universal Characteristic Method Human Profiling (UCMHP) is a very unique method that takes the date of birth and the time of birth of an individual and it can tell the person's character, personalities and behaviors. There is no religion or superstition involved. It's based on the scientifically proven mathematics calculation and statistic called Pythagoras Theorem.

Let me be honest here!

Despite much introduction and information given, I still didn't believe it was true unless I was convinced that he could tell me exactly who I truly am just by looking at my birthdate. I was so curious that I even went to meet Dr. Yeo after his seminar and had 2 hour personal reading session with him.

He looked at me and asked: "What do you want to know?"- "I don't know what to ask, what could you say about me?" I answered. He then jotted down my birthday and started calculating. Less than 1 minute later, my numbers were found. He went on and on about who I am, what is my habit, my strength, my weaknesses without having to look at me to find some clues (You know some bad masters always need to look at your reaction to clarify what they say is true before saying other things?).

Dr. Yeo said I'm born to be a communicator, a presenter, or consultant. I'm good at internet-based businesses or anything that is related to diplomatic relations, travel or broadcasting. I'm very hardworking, mature and naturally charismatic. The type of charisma that Dr. Yeo even described "People are attracted to you before you even need to speak to them". However, he emphasized: "Be careful of people who want to take advantage of you and people who like to backstab you".

During the 2 hour sharing (he talked most of the time), Dr. Yeo also talked about some of my habits which made me stunned: "You like to bite your lip when you are thinking or focusing on something". Jesus! Nobody ever said this to me even my closest friend or family. Neither do I realize it. But I DO bite my lips whenever I focus on something and I couldn't help it.

There were many other things (including my very personal issues) Dr. Yeo said that made me so amazed. I still couldn't quite figure out how he and the UCMHP method could possibly tell all these, but I had no other way to argue. I surrendered.

This is so AMAZING!

What he said about me was not 90% accurate. It was 100% accurate, I swear. Initially, I wanted to spend 45 minutes only. After 2 hours, I wish I could talk to him for another hour if he wasn't so busy.

Before I left, Dr. Yeo also gave me his new book "Know Your Numbers, Know Yourself" as a present. The book will soon be sold in some of the bookstores. You can buy one for yourself to read and learn more about Human Profiling. However, you need to attend his basic workshop in order for you to know how to calculate and to understand the formulas

Dr. Bernard is currently having 2-day seminar for anyone interested in learning about the Universal Characteristic Method of Human Profiling. Normal course fee is $1500. Here is a great deal for you:

Mention "CRYSTALPHUONG" to get discounted course fee at S$997 only plus a free book (worth S$36) and T-shirt (limited edition).

In few more days, I will be in Hanoi (Vietnam) to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family. Right now, it's the coldest season of the year there, which means I'll be able to wear my most favorite wardrobe staple: a winter coat

Winter fashion is nothing without a coat. It's the most basic, versatile and classic piece that everyone needs to have in our wardrobe. Whether you are out for a casual occasion, a formal meeting or a romantic date, this key piece will ensure to keep you always look your best.

When I was thinking of how to wear this timeless piece of cloth, Modcloth (an online shopping site in US) came with an invitation to collaborate with them on their "Modcloth Uniquely You" campaign which required me to style this Diagonal Alley Coat in Black with other items in their store. How coincident!

There are so many different ways to wear a coat, but here are some of my most favorite ones this season:

Look 1: Elegance With A Dash of Daring

I hope you enjoyed the outfits that I styled here and found some ideas on how to wear a winter coat.

Thank you Modcloth for the opportunity! It's my pleasure to collaborate with you!

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: EMERALD MIDI

I first blogged about the emerald colored outfit "The Power of Emerald" in February in 2013. After almost a year, I found myself writing the same topic again with so much excitement and still being inspired by this rich-and-unique color. There is a common thing that is so hard to explain about these 2 blog entries. Last year, I published "The Power of Emerald" right before I left to the airport. This year is coincidently no difference. I'm trying to finish this blog entry so that I can start packing for my holiday trip in Vietnam in 2-day time. How did the whole coincident-thingy happen? I had no idea, but it did feel like talking about an old friend after a long time.

It's also crazy to see how long did I take to wear that necklace. If it hadn't been for the emerald midi skirt, I wouldn't have the chance to bring this unique necklace out for a spin again. However let's not talk about the necklace today. I wanted to share with you my 1970s moment when I wore this gorgeous emerald midi skirt out 2 weeks ago.

I've been saying many times how much I love the midi skirt. I've tried to stop myself from buying too many of them, but it's so hard to ignore this particular skirt. As a statement piece on its own, the emerald midi skirt is such a luxurious, sophisticated and glamorous wardrobe staple that needs very minimum accessories to go with it. I mean, you could instantly look chic and be a head-turner whenever you put the skirt on. For some reasons, this look reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex And The City movie. She always looked so feminine, so elegant and classic in long dresses or long and voluminous skirts. Despite the fact that her life story and mine strangely have so many things in common, I'm obsessed with her style and of course, her wardrobe.

Notice the people looking at me from behind? Were they waiting for their buses or  were they wondering: "How could this girl walk so dangerously on the street like that?." The thought made me laugh. It was a quiet one-way street in the afternoon, and I decided to take the risk having some Carrie Bradshaw moments of my own. On the other hand, I assumed and insisted that people were looking at my skirt.

Happy Lunar New Year and greetings from Vietnam everyone!

I purposely reserved this blog entry until today as I wanted it to be published on the very first day of 2014 (in Lunar Calendar). Hopefully, it'll bring me some luck and give me more opportunities to work with many other amazing brands, advertisers this year. It's been officially 7 years since I started blogging. The blog has grown with me, witnessed so many up-and-down moments in my life and shared with me so much joys and success. It's become part of me without me realizing it.

I love spending my New Year's Eve to recall what happened, what have I learned, what have I failed and what have I overcome. Then, on the first day of the New Year, I start thinking about what I want to achieve this year, focusing on the positivity and wishing the best in everything for everyone. It feels so happy just by doing that.

Last year was such a challenging year for me (I blogged about it in the 2013, In a nutshell blog post), but I'm glad I always kept myself so optimistic, motivated to overcome all the challenges. I believe no matter how many obstacles and difficulties that life gives us, we should always be positive, never lose hope and never give up. Just like the pop of red in this entire black, grey, silver outfit I was wearing here, I'm reminding myself: there is always light in the darkness, all we need to do is to keep walking.

I'm spending an amazing time with my family here in Vietnam to celebrate New Year. We did nothing besides talking, eating and laughing so far. It felt incredible. No matter which part of the world you are if you celebrate Lunar New Year, I wish you a new year with a lot of joy, happiness, luck and success.
Thank you so much for reading!

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: PEACH BLOSSOM

There is one flower that everyone in Vietnam loves to talk about before and during Lunar New Year is none other than peach blossom. The conversations that make a homeowner proud can simply go like this: Where do you buy it from, How much does it cost, What a branch of peach blossom did you get etc... The fragile-looking flower with five cotton candy colored petals is not like any of another ordinary plant. It's an essential symbol that has very strong impact to every Vietnamese home. It's believed to bring love, joy and happiness to everyone in the family in this special time of the year. To Vietnamese people, if there is no peach blossom branch in the house, there is no New Year. That's how important this unique flower is.

After 20 years, this was the first time I had the opportunity to shoot with this iconic flower that stays so close to my heart. The photoshoot was even more special to me as it's done by my dearest mommy in my own house. I love peach blossom not only because it's pink (my favorite color) but also it's a part of my teenage's memory that I would never forget. I have too many memories growing up, I know, and you wouldn't believe it.

When I was 15, my family used to sell peach blossom branches to get extra income during New Year. While other families happily went shopping for New Year, we were standing in the open-air market from 9am to 10pm, trying to sell every single peach blossom plant before New Year's Eve regardless the 10°C (50 °F) temperature with the freezing wind blew to our face, hunger and fatigue. We did this for 6 years without fail. I was too young to understand how hard my parents were trying to make a living, to give me a comfortable New Year. I was so looking forward to New Year so that I could see so many beautiful flowers in my backyard, pink petals on the floor, and I was very excited if I got a chance to go to the market. I even helped mom to sell one tree for $30 after negotiating with the customer. The truth was he bought from me because I was too cute. That's when I knew I was good at selling (just kidding)

Fast forward 20 years, we are no longer the sellers. I and my dad still love going to the market every year (still the same open-air market that we stood at 20 years ago, but it looks much more modern now), to buy a nice peach blossom branch to decorate our house and to remind ourselves how hard we used to live. He wants me to remember who we were, what we did to appreciate what we have today. As usual, while he is looking for a beautiful plant, I'm looking around, hopping to see if there is any kid selling the peach blossom tree nearby, but I have yet to see anyone for the past 5 years. I guess kids are living much better now, which is a good thing.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: BURGUNDY BABE

One of the winter colors that I love the most, and constantly go back to has to be burgundy. The dark red color that is combined from the red and blue is said to have controlled power, determination and great energy. It's the most basic (and versatile) color that should never be missed out in the wardrobe. It can be elegant and playful, classic and sophisticated, warm or cool, it all depends on how we wear it.

A midi skirt and burgundy for winter? It's the best of both worlds. One has the feminine touch while the other has so much passion and sensuality.

Like my mom, my dad loves seeing me in any outfit that makes me look elegant and womanly. Thus, a long skirt is always his pick among the other staples: jeans, shorts or mini skirts. I guess that's why he fell in love with my mom.

On a side note, I blogged about the midi skirt before (here and here), but I guess this is the first time the burgundy midi skirt has the chance to be featured on my blog. Not only is it the first appearance, but also it's lucky enough to be captured by my hero. He is- none other than- my dad. He volunteered to be my photographer of the day while I was asking my mom for help.

"Working" with my father is such a joy as he always makes everything so easy for me. I just need to tell him what I want to achieve, he'll know how to get it right from the first shoot. Taking these outfit photos, hence was a piece of cake, and we managed to finish it within 20 minutes. The photos might not be as beautiful as the ones taken by a professional photographer, but they are perfect to me.

How many points do you think his photography skill scores?

{STYLE TIP}: WHAT TO WEAR FOR VALENTINE'S DAY?

$

It's that time of the year again! The most romantic night of the year on the horizon is only 3 days away from now. Whether you are celebrating this special date night with your boyfriend, husband or your gal pals, Valentine's Day is a day for fun, flirty and feminine dressing to take place. I know finding the perfect dress to go out on Valentine's Day can be very stressful. That's why I have created 3 outfit inspirations just for you in case you are stuck in the drama "What to wear" forever.

Last year, I created 4 different outfit ideas for your Valentine's Date. I hope they were useful. This year, these 3 stunning outfits will surely make you be the center of attraction at any party you go to.

1. Fairy Tale Love
A sweetly printed dress in such a flattering shape like this Mary Katrantzou dress is so hard to ignore. Besides, I'm obsessed with the pink, lavender, and purple color on this dress, the colors of love, faith, romance, femininity and elegance. You want to wow your man when you walk out of the wardrobe? Wear this outfit.
::Outfit::
Armani Rough lipstick
River Island cuff bracelet- Sydney Evan ring

2. Seal It With A Kiss
Red is a quintessential color on Valentine's Day. As much as I love pink and lavender, I can't skip this hot color, especially when it comes with many kisses like the design of this Alice & Olivia dress. I assume she must be inspired by the Valentine's Day when she designed this dress.
::Outfit::
YSL lipstick
Ann Taylor necklace
The Grand Social bracelet- Also love this one.
Marc Jacobs perfume

3. Love And Be Loved.
If bright and loud colors aren't your things, the LBD (Little Black Dress) perhaps, would do a great job to make you look stunning, yet still feel comfortable in your own skin on this day. I mean, who doesn't wear black dress? There are many types of LBD to choose from: bodycon, spandex, sequin and lace dress, but I personally think the tulle-organza-silk dress is the ultimate choice on Valentine's Day. You don't even need heels or any accessories, you will still look extremely sexy in it.
::Outfit::
Saint Laurent bracelet-
Nyx lipstick

I have helped you to solve your problem of figuring out what to wear. If you are still wondering what to do, where to go on Valentine's Day (and if you are single), you are most welcome to join me at the number one singles party Valentine Vendetta at New Asia bar this coming Friday 14th Feb, 2014.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: BOYFRIEND vs. BART SIMPSON

On the 3rd day of Lunar New Year in Vietnam, the weather was incredibly beautiful with golden sunshine, crisp air and gorgeous flowers everywhere. Nature seemed to be too generous and kind to the Northern part of Vietnam this year. Or, I would like to believe that I brought the Singapore sunshine back with me to chase the usual grey sky and the freezing 10°C (50°F) temperature away. Believe it or not, the day I left Vietnam, the temperature suddenly went down to 8°C, and it hasn't gone up since then. :(

As much as I wanted to stay at home during New Year, I couldn't help but think about the outdoor photo-shoot opportunity with the cutest baby on earth (my nephew), in such a perfect weather. Good thing, Miu loves dressing up and taking photos as much as his aunty does, thus, having a photo shoot with him was extremely fun and easy. We managed to take a couple of photos together until he was so attracted to the car rides, he didn't want to take photos with me anymore, lolz.
My little gangster- a potential lady-killer in the future, I hope you will not break many girls' heart with your handsomeness and stylishness.

After the big boy had gone for his car rides, I started a quick photoshoot with the other 2 small "boys": my boyfriend jeans and Mr. Bart Simpson. Guess who was the photographer this time? It's my brother.

Initially, I thought this "triangle relationship" between me, my boyfriend jeans and Mr. Bart Simpson would be awkward and uncomfortable as I could pay attention to only one of them. It turned out to be ok as the 2 "boys" worked very well together to give me an outfit that I expected: casual and chic. Though, it was the first time Mr. Bart Simpson appeared on my blog, but he seemed to make a perfect appearance, don't you think?

If there is any wardrobe staple that instantly makes me feel confident the moment I put it on, it has to be this blazer. I've owned many different blazers in different styles, colors and shapes, but none is as unique as this blazer that you are seeing here.

Reminiscent of Balmain blazer, the structured shoulders design immediately caught my attention when I first saw it online. At the same time, I also adore the peplum silhouette that gives a perfect curve to a wearer. Having a feminine touch in this masculine structure, this blazer gives me the feeling of a strong woman who is ready to conquer the world. She is powerful, important and determined. She is a lady boss. She works hard; she plays even harder. With the blazer on, she looks professional at work. With the blazer off, she seems to be ready for a party anytime.

It amazes me how many personalities we can have from just one outfit. I must thank to Leo.C Photography for helping me to capture these beautiful images and for bringing this woman in my own imagination come to life.

I'm trying to be like her.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CLASSIC BEAUTE

I find it weird every time I want to buy something specifically, whether it's a dress, a pair of shoes, sunglasses or handbag, I can spend the whole day shopping, dig in every corner of the mall, yet still go home with empty hands and disappointment. When I don't feel like buying anything, I always chance upon a treasured item that leaves me no choice but to bring it home. Buying this cut-out circle dress within 5 minutes while I was window-shopping is an example.

The wasp waist with full circle bottom reminds me of 1950s fashion in which women always looked undeniably sophisticated and feminine. I have to admit I'm a true slave of this style, and I have yet to see when will I stop loving it. As if the classic silhouette dress in beige color wasn't attractive enough for me to buy, the shop owner turned the dress around to show me the cut-out back with a big bow on it. I was sold, completely.

Not every day I can find a dress that has the consummate combination of modern and classic, with the most simple details, in the most basic color, yet still looks breathtaking like that. I thought, what would be better to pair this iconic dress with my favorite Dior sunglasses, a pair of black gloves, black heels and statement necklace to bring me back to 1950s. I wish I could go back in time to witness how fashion designer Christian Dior first dominated fashion scenes in those years.

{EDITORIAL}: BLACK NIGHT

If you have been following my blog long enough, you'll know I mostly post about my daily outfit. Comparing my very first outfit post  from 2012 until now, I see myself improve tremendously, and I couldn't be happier to see how much I've grown in this fashion blogging industry. It has been a long, tough, yet fulfilling journey so far.

After 123 Crystal's Closet daily outfit posts, I suddenly had the urge to do some things differently, some things new to challenge creativity and to get out of my comfort zone. That's when this editorial post came about. I wanted to do some editorial photo shot awhile ago, but I couldn't find the right "partner" to work with until I met Doug Tindall, an amazingly talented photographer with so much enthusiasm and dedication. We exchanged few ideas, discussed about varieties of photos and went immediately for the shoot right after we found the perfect concept as if we were afraid that we could lose the inspiration at any moment. Working with people who have the same level of passion and commitment is always so fun and satisfying.

It's really hard to keep this secret away from everyone as I wanted to show you these beautiful photos I received from Doug one day after our photo shoot, but I couldn't due to my other blogging assignments. Finally, I can proudly present to you my very first editorial photo shoot: BLACK NIGHT.

I don't know if these photos are anywhere near the industry standards, compared to the photos that you often see in a fashion magazine, but I'm very happy to call them my own fashion editorial pieces. Doug and I would be very grateful and happy to hear your constructive comments, suggestions so that we could improve ourselves. Just like the Crystal's Closet blog entries, I'm sure my editorial posts will get better and better. It's just the matter of time.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we created them.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: SHIMMERING

Hey guys,
Just a quick hello from me, I hope you had an awesome weekend.

Whenever I feel so uninspired or lazy to dress up to go out on the weekend, I'll instantly think about this shimmering blouse that I bought from GUESS some time ago. It's simple yet so chic and stylish, and I can pair it up with anything. I paired this shiny blouse with denim jeans and high heels when I went for a dinner with my friend few months ago. On a casual Sunday, I wanted to look a bit more casual in shorts and sandals. It didn't take me more than 5 minutes to decide whether or not I should buy this black shimmering shorts from Forever21. It's obviously a Yes answer. Not every day we can find different items from different brands that have an exact match in color and pattern like that, and I'm still amazed whenever I look at these 2 pieces put together. By the way, do you notice the shimmering black-gray jewelry necklace and bracelet that I was wearing? They are my birthday gifts that happen to look like they were made of a piece of my clothes. How cool could it be?

Thank you so much for reading!

MY TOP 10 OSCAR 2014 BEST DRESSED.

The 2014 Oscar ended just yesterday, but the topics about it are still flooding all over the internet. I wish I could be there to witness it. However, thank to the social media and internet, we are still able to catch up with what happened on the other side of the world, at The Dolby Theatre, to be exact.

The first thing I did when I woke up was to check my Instagram to get the first look at who wore what at Oscar, and I was so overwhelmed with so many sparkling gowns, flawless makeup, gorgeous hairstyles on the red carpet. I'm sure you are obsessed with all the Oscar photos as much as I am. There are too many beautiful dresses to choose from, but I have finally selected my very own Top 10 Oscar Best Dressed in 2014. (After looking at the photos and watching the Red Carpet Live video)

10. Emma Watson in metallic Vera Wang dress.
The simple black dress with lots of shine complimented her body shape so well. She looked so grown up here. Gorgeous girl!

9.Amy AdamsinGucci
The leading actress in American Hustle proved to us that we can never go wrong with navy blue, even with the minimal accessories to go along with it. I love the subtle peplum detail at the waist area, and her curvy body.

8. Kate Hudson in Versace.
Kate Hudson made a stunning arrival at the Oscar with this metallic caped Atelier Versace gown. I love how the feminine plunging neckline went so well with the strong shoulders on this dress. Her side swept hairstyle with just-right makeup was a typical Hollywood glamour look. Classic and beautiful.

7. Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab Couture.
Having been a crazy fan of Elie Saab Couture, I couldn't skip his name in this top list, especially when Angelina Jolie wore his gown to the red carpet. She looked absolutely stunning from head to toe. You don't have to flaunt your leg to look sexy, Angie. You just need to wear more Elie Saab Couture.

6. Jenna Dewan Tatum in Reem Acra.
Nude-colored dresses will never go out of style no matter which year we are in. I've seen many nude gowns on the red carpet this year, but I (personally) only love 2 of them. One is the nude confection by Reem Acra worn by Jenna, and the other one? You'll know it at the end of this post.

5. Sandra Bullock in Alexander Mc Queen.
Although she didn't win Best Actress at the 2014 Academy Awards this year, but her navy blue gown has won her The Best Dressed on the Red Carpet. I don't think anyone could deny that. The long wavy hair with smoky eyes and nude lips completed her entire look, which was already so perfect in this royal blue gown. Hands down to the interlocked pleat detail at the waist. It's so mesmerizing!

4. Charlize Theron in Christian Dior.
When I first looked at the Charlize Theron's dress, I thought: "Wow! That's a lot black", and I didn't know If I would like it. But then, I couldn't stop looking at her photo again and again. Perhaps, the classic black colored gown with invisible-straps and the mermaid skirt hypnotized me. Or, maybe her 31-carat Winston Cluster Diamond necklace that is worth 15millions did.

3. Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior.
My favorite girl in the universe! I love her sense of humor, her beauty, her genuineness, and of course her talent. She looked stunning in this vibrant red peplum gown with the backward necklace, that's for sure. Nevertheless, I would expect to see more of her for this special event, like a mermaid gown or something.  She has been wearing the similar dress silhouette for the past couple of events. However, because she is Jennifer Lawrence so she deserves to be No. 3 on my list.

2. Cate Blanchette in Armani Prive
The lead Actress in "Blue Jasmine" is not only the Oscar winner this year, but also the Best Dressed winner with her gold gown embroidered dress with full Swarovski crystals on it. The photo doesn't do the dress any justice, because if you take a look at her dress in the video, you'll fall in love with it as much as I do. It's sparkling, and it's so ravishing.

1. Lupita Nyong'o in Prada.
Taking No.1 in my Top Oscar Best Dressed is none other than Lupita Nyong'o, the 2014 Oscar winner for her Best Supporting Actress in "12 Years a Slave". She wowed all of us with this romantic blue plunging gown and her Fred Leighton headband and jewelry. I kept wondering "Where have I seen this dress before?", and then I realized that she reminded me of the Disney princess- Cindrella. No, I think she is Cinderella who has just come to life. Congratulation on your winning, you totally deserve it!

That sums up my Oscar 2014 Top 10 Best Dressed, I hope this spontaneous post does quench your thirst. By the way, what is your Oscar Best Dressed list? Please share with me in the comment section below.

{BEAUTY}: J'S NAIL SALON

There is a saying that goes like this: "The only time a woman is helpless is when her nail polish is drying. Other than that, watch out". I don't know who said that, but that person is a genius. He or she speaks the mind of millions women out there, and I'm one of them.

I believe having a good look always makes us feel confident, and your nails are the small but important detail to complete your whole package. You'll be surprised to know that many people will start making a conversation with you just by saying: "Your nails are so beautiful". It immediately boosts your confidence to one level up. If you have never done nail art before, you'll probably never understand why we can afford to spend 2 hours every month in a nail salon. But the beauty always has its price. From a true experience of someone who used to hate spending time and money at a beauty salon to a person who spends at least 2 hours in those places now, I'll tell you why it's worth it. Let me take you on a virtual tour of my new nail sponsor- J's Nail.

Located inside an exclusive condominium at Shelford road- the heart of Bukit Timah greenery, J's Nail is not like any other nail salon that you've seen in Far East Plaza (the beauty and nail salons mall). It's beautifully decorated and well-invested from the chairs, tables and interior to even all the nail products. I was quite surprised as I didn't expect to see such a hidden gem like this tucked in the center of a prestigious landed estate of Bukit Timah. It all made sense when Joann (owner of J's Nail) shared with me that they hope to serve more professional working ladies who want to be pampered and to look good. They have everything to show you with the best and luxurious nail service that exceeds your expectations.

A beautiful glitter wall from the entrance leads to this cozy room with many velvet chairs and tables that can serve up to 6 customers at one time.

And another area for a pedicure treatment.

Established in 2007, J's Nail started as a home-based nail art salon and became an active renegade force in the nail art industry. Joann received numerous certifications for her work. She offers all services that are related to manicure and pedicure but her forte has always been hard gel and nail art.

I saw some of her amazing nail art work while I was having my very spontaneous nail treatment done at 9pm on Saturday night. At first, I just wanted to check out her place, and after talking to Joann, she made me want to get my new nail art right away. Everything was ready within 5 minutes. It's quite fascinating to see how an expert does their job without any prior notice and preparation. She asked about my preferred nail design after looking at my nails, told me how she could get it done, step by step, and she went straight to the process.

First, Joann did a cleansing and filing of my nails after putting on the nail extension. Look how even, clean and smooth they are!

Then, she started applying a first coat of gel thinly color by color. I wanted to have Spring- Summer nails so I asked if Joann could give me the pastel colored nails with a pop of yellow on it.

Ten minutes later, this was what I had.

While she was focusing on drawing each and every yellow flower on my nail, slowly and carefully, I started asking about her story, how did she become a nail artist in Hongkong, and now Singapore. Passionately, she shared with me all her life stories, including the fairy tale love story with her husband, sitting next to her, feeding her the Mc. Donald chicken nuggets for dinner so that she could have enough energy to do the nails for me. I felt bad, but admired her at the same time. There are so many beautiful stories like this that still exist, all we need to do is to keep looking.

The fun conversation at (almost) midnight made the whole beauty process become shorter than expected. When I saw Joann put the last few Swarovski crystals (the most expensive crystals) onto my nails, I knew it's time for a photo and to say goodbye.

Thank you so much for your wonderful stories, great services, my beautiful nails and most importantly, for being my sponsor.
Now, I can take a #selfi photo all day long with my gorgeous nails.

If the story and the photos above are not good enough to convince you, I guess you just have to go down to J's Nail and try their service. They are located in a cozy condominium, just beside a swimming pool:

SHOPPING PARADISE IN MADRID: EL CORTE INGLES

As the blog title itself, today I'm going to take you on a virtual shopping tour to Madrid, the most lively and beguiling city of Spain, which I believe it's always in our must-visit places list. I've been dreaming of visiting Spain for the longest time for one reason: watching the live flamenco dance show while having the most popular drink Sangria. But now, I have another more attracting reason to visit Madrid: El Corte Ingles Castellana department store.

That's right! What a trip to Madrid without visiting this shopping heaven? Being crowned as the largest chain of department stores in Europe and ranked fourth worldwide, El Corte Ingles truly makes every Madridian proud. Located in Madrid’s business and financial heart, the new El Corte Inglés Castellana store in Paseo de la Castellana has emerged as a model of innovation and modernity. One of the largest and most unique stores in Europe, it occupies a large part of a 22-storey landmark building enclosed by a backlit cylinder. In this way architecture and art are placed at the service of customers to create experiences and fulfil dreams which are yet to find expression.

With more than 80 centers throughout Spain and Portugal and more than 8.000 international brands, El Corte Ingles has everything you need, from the high-fashion brands, premium watches, jewelry to gourmet food. It promises a fantastic shopping experience that is exactly similar to the one in your dreams. All of my favorite fashion brands can be found there: Cartier, Bottega Veneta, Bulgari, Dior, Gucci, Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and many more. These stores, installed in a distinct and unique zone, each offers their own ambiance and decor. Each brand displays the most coveted pieces and models in the field of luxury accessories. I'm dying to see them for real, up close and personal.

I can go on and on about how many amazing things El Corte Ingles has to offer, but none of the department store shopping experiences are complete without a treat for the palate. The Gourmet Experience in Castellana combines tasting with the sale of gourmet products. It allows you to enjoy different types of specialties from around the world such as Iberian cured products, seafood, smoked foods, grilled meat and fish, cheeses, high quality Asian cuisine and freshly squeezed fruit juices. For an Asian cuisine slave like myself, this is heaven.

As if all of the above things are not wonderful enough, Spain even offers the highest tax refund in Europe, resulting in luxury goods being cheaper: “For every €10,000 you spend in Spain you will receive a €1,570 VAT tax refund. This compares to a tax-refund of approximately  €1,300 for every €10,000 you spend in France” (According to Global Blue). How does this sound, my fellow shoppaholics? It's too good to be true, isn't it?

I don't know about you, but I'll start saving for my Madrid shopping trip this year (I hope) from today.
Want to know more information about El Corte Ingles? Check out their website and download their mobile app: "Castellana El Corte Ingles" on iTunes or Google Play.

If you've traveled to Madrid and visited El Corte Ingles, please share with me your experience in the comment section below.

Thank you so much for reading!

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: SKY BLUE

It's a little bit depresessing to think about how long did it take me to shoot this sky blue chiffon dress. A year, to be exact. Your first time seeing this dress on my blog is my second time wearing it. I must say, I need to find a perfect reason to wear it. Because this dress is so unique, fragile and beautiful to my opinion, it needs a special introduction, no less. That special introduction came about when I suddenly wanted to feel (and look) more feminine, sweet and romantic than usual. The same feeling you have when you are about to walk down the aisle with someone special, or when you are having a dulcet dream that puts a smile on your face. I didn't have to put much effort to show the whole world how I felt, this dress helped me to speak on it own.

Style is a reflection of our attitude and our personality. As much as I would like to remain myself as Ms. Mysterious, I think my clothes betray me most of the time.

{EDITORIAL}: KEEP IT COOL

First of all, Doug and I would like to thank you so much for the positive feedback and comments on our very first editorial shot: Black Night. It means the world to me knowing that you liked the photos we created, and it drives me crazy everyday to think of the new ideas to entertain you. Some people asked me what was our purpose in creating such photos, did we get paid for doing that, etc..... Honestly, we didn't know where we were heading to, or what's there for us, we just thought of creating more and more beautiful photos. It's the passion (besides your love and support) that motivates us and keeps us going. It helps me see the possibilities in everything, even from the smallest and simplest perspective. Just like the idea in this second editorial photo shoot, who thought a casual boyfriend shirt with a simple white denim jeans could look so glamorous and sexy together?

I initially planned to shoot this outfit for the normal Crystal's Closet outfit post, but the photos turned out to be so unexpectedly beautiful that I couldn't help but list them under the Editorial category. Thanks to my partner-in-crime Doug Tindall for making me so elegant even when I was in my coolest outfit.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: NEON IS THE NEW BLACK

Neon is such a strong and addictive color. This eye-catching hue is so powerful that it makes somebody who used to be anti-vibrant colors for many years become a crazy fan in such a short period of time. It was almost immediate when I tried on this striking pair of shoes, I realized neon color was not as scary as I thought. The intensity of brightness doesn't stop me from having fun, it makes me feel more energetic and happy instead.

While some people think of neon color as an attention seeker, I would prefer to look at it as a motivational resource. It challenges you to be different, to stand out from the crowd and to feel comfortable in your own skin. It helps you to overcome your fear when all eyes are on you in public. It teaches you to relax, enjoy and be open to the new experiences.

Besides, it brightens your day up when everything is gloomy. What's not to love neon?
